For the Love of Small Business

Did you know there are 30.7 million small businesses in the United States? This accounts for 99% of ALL businesses in the United States. Hard to believe that we think it’s so hard for us to focus our efforts to support and spend at small, local businesses in order to pour into our communities. Millennials and Gen Zers are 188% more likely to start their own businesses on the side from their full time job compared to baby boomers.

As Small Businesses depend on their local economies and the support of their friends, family, new and returning clients, it’s so important for us as consumers to be aware of what small businesses are available to us to purchase our goods and services from in our area. It’s an integral part of building a strong local economy for the towns we live in. In fact, small businesses generate $68 of local economic return for every $100 spent with them. Over $9.3 billion would be directly returned to our economy if every US family spent just $10 a month at a local business.

There is more than just one way to support local businesses, besides purchasing their goods and services. Read on to see how you can love your local businesses today.

5 Ways to Love on Small Businesses-

  • Give Your Favorite Small Business A Review (Or A Few) Ninety-two percent of potential consumers read business reviews before deciding if your business is what they’re looking for. That means your recommendations mean a lot to other people! Take the time to write a good review about your favorite local businesses and show them you care.
  • Share Small Businesses On Social Media Sharing is caring! For small businesses, you sharing their business online or your experiences can make a huge difference. Some different ways you can do this is by tagging your friends and family on their social media pages, using direct messaging options on platforms like Facebook or hitting that convenient ‘share’ button on any of their posts!
  • Engage With Their Content. Engaging with your favorite business’ social media can go beyond just liking their posts. Taking a second to comment about your shared experiences or letting them know your thoughts about their content lets businesses know you’re interested and engaged in what they’re putting out there! The more you engage, the more they give back.
  • Share the Gift of Small Businesses services or products (gift cards) Gift cards are a fantastic way to support your local businesses during the pandemic. Purchasing gift cards for friends, family or coworkers makes such a simple present. They also help keep your favorite businesses around while providing flexibility to whoever gets them. Ask your local businesses if they sell gift cards this month!
  • Offer your skills (If you’re an accountant, a lawyer, a banker, or a digital marketing specialist, to name just a few, local businesses may welcome your help.) Did you know? About half of small businesses fail within five years, and it’s normally due to financial or marketing difficulties. If you’re an accountant, a lawyer, a banker, or a digital marketing specialist, to name just a few, local businesses may welcome your help! Reach out and see what you can do for your local businesses.
